Our Empowerment to live Holy

Hold on! Do not skip this part thinking “There’s no way I could be holy. That’s just not gonna happen.” Give me a minute! Just keep reading!

Living holy does not mean living perfect, or boring, or never messing up. The best description I have read that made sense of this was in Jesus Calling by Sarah Young (a great morning devotional from Yeshua’s perspective talking to you). I have read this devotional almost every single day since it was gifted to me in 2014 and still to this day every time it is spot on. Each time I have no doubt that it was the Holy Spirit talking directly to me for my situation that day! Or if I skipped a day and went back and read it, it was exactly what I dealt with the day I was supposed to read it and it would have helped me get through it a lot easier than I did! I know some people have said they do not like how she calls it inspired by the Holy Spirit, but she does not mean for it to replace the scripture, she actually directs you to the Word to confirm it for yourself!

On the December 13th devotional, it is Yeshua encouraging us to take time to be holy. Reminding us that holy doesn’t mean to be a “goody-goody” or anywhere near perfect, but she described it to mean “set aside for sacred use”. That made way more sense to me. Let’s read that again, set aside for sacred use.

Now, how do we do this? I imagine we accomplish this by taking time to soak in the Light of Yahweh’s presence. We cannot just wait until we are in crisis, right? We cannot wait until our tire is flat. We can get up before anyone else and spend time with our Heavenly Father in peace and quiet before the morning hustle of the day begins. That way, when the time comes and we need to make a decision (either a quick decision or a really big one) we are prepared to take a step back and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us. Then we need to actually do what He prompts us to do… that is what I believe is living holy.

I have seen the power of the Holy Spirit work not only in my life, but in the lives of those around me. Even in the lives of those who I honestly believed were lost causes, too far gone, no way they would seek Yahweh for their lives. Even for those who, in the clinical mental health field, were considered beyond fixable. I hated that I felt that way, because I loved them dearly, but I just did not see how they would ever turn to Him. However, when the Holy Spirit shows up, there is nothing He can’t do. Nothing! The word promises that nothing is impossible with Elohim (Luke 1:37).

Remember from my "Disclaimer" I discussed how Elohim was the first name used for God in the Bible, and in Hebrew, the words ending with “him” (heem) were plural. Therefore, nothing is impossible with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit working on your behalf! The Holy Spirit intercedes (prays) the perfect will of Yahweh on our behalf. He empowers us to live a holy life (set apart for sacred use, not perfect). After Yeshua paid the price for us to be able to live holy, the Holy Spirit was sent to be our helper, our counselor, our intercessor, the One who fights our battles. We call on Him when we just cannot deal! When life gets too overwhelming.

Once I finally truly tapped into the power of the Holy Spirit and praying in the spirit, I found that “quick fix” we all hope for.

“Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints”  Ephesians 6:18

While the circumstances around us may stay the same, the wind and waves no longer matter because the peace that passes all understanding within comes from the Holy Spirit. It cannot be explained, it cannot be replicated by a human being. It washes over you like a warm hug that reassures you that everything is going to be okay and that nothing is impossible for our Creator.

Scripture References on the Holy Spirit:

  • Romans 8:26-27 - Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of Yahweh.

  • Yeshua said in Mark 16:17-18 – “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

  • Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

A wise man once said, “The Holy Spirit is in me for my sake, He comes upon me for yours.” When Yeshua was baptized the word says that the Holy Spirit came upon Yeshua like a dove. He went onto explain, “think about a dove resting on your shoulder and you do not want it to fly away. Every step you take will be taken with the dove in mind! That’s walking in the spirit.” Aligning ourselves with the Holy Spirit, thinking the way He thinks, and consulting with Him before making decisions. It is only with His empowerment within us that this is even possible.

A great resource of this is a word from John Bevere! I’ve put the direct links (and how to search these videos) in the resources section of this book. If you have found a video that looks like it’s from the 80’s then you are in the right place! The information is still applicable. Yes, these videos are around an hour long each, and yes, it took me about two-three days to watch them, but the fact is, it is worth the time and effort. Learning how to speak to the Holy Spirit is a way of seeking the Father.

Someone once said to me, “the way you live with God is extreme”. Well, maybe, but my life was extremely bad for a long time, not living with Him in mind. Therefore, I am willing to seek Him to the other “extreme” so that my life can be extremely better than it was! Once you get in the flow, it doesn’t feel so extreme anymore. It’s just a way of life.

Yahweh is intentional with us. There’s no wasted time, no wasted space, and no wasted event. It’s only fair that I live intentional with Him. It makes sense that we do not allow our time to be wasted, or space in our brain to be wasted thinking thoughts He doesn’t think about us or others. Time spent with the Lord in prayer or meditation on the word will never be wasted! It is promised in His Word that, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)

Take time to listen to the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to reveal to you what it is that you really need. Our bodies send us signals that we usually ignore or misread. When we are lacking something in our spiritual life, we feel it in the natural and can misread the signals. I have heard people trying to justify everything these days by saying that if the body is craving it, that means it is something our body really needs. I have even done this myself.

Think about it this way, my body craves pastries. I’ve learned that pastries are actually horrible for my body. Sugar is addictive and has no nutritional value whatsoever, and actually feeds the cancer cells in our bodies. Also, I have never really felt satisfied after eating a pastry. I usually feel pretty bad physically which makes me feel bad emotionally. Just because your body is craving physical affection does not mean you need to have sex with someone. Just being real! That’s what society today tells us. Again, my body craves things that are horrible for it! Yes, we should love our bodies, because they are a gift from Yahweh.

We should also listen to them, be good stewards of them and take good care of them. However, that does not mean giving them whatever we think they want. I have learned first-hand this the hard way. Listening to our bodies means to take a step back and ask the Holy Spirit… what is this? What am I feeling? What do I really need? We just have to actually listen and then heed His instruction. What have you been craving lately?
